Free workplace prevent type 2 diabetes sessions

Recently published data from the workplace health checks indicate that almost 25% of Victorian workers are currently in the high risk categories for developing type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes is a chronic condition that, if not well managed, can have serious complications such as blindness; heart attack; stroke; amputation and kidney failure.

The good news is that, in most cases, type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed.

Diabetes Australia – Vic is committed to reducing the incidence and onset of type 2 diabetes in our community.

Around 64% of Australians are in the workforce, so the workplace is an ideal environment to provide access to health resources and information.

The Life! program is providing free seminars on how to prevent type 2 diabetes, for workplaces. We can then link your eligible employees into a Life! diabetes prevention program. The program is a government funded initiative that is free for most eligible people. Eligible employees can choose to participate in Life! telephone health coaching or the group-based Life! course, held either in the community or run within your workplace.

Our free sessions run for one hour and provide the following information:

  •   What is diabetes?
  •   Symptoms and complications of diabetes
  •   Risk factors for type 2 diabetes
  •   How to prevent type 2 diabetes

Please note:

  •   Venues must be in greater Melbourne
  •   Minimum 20 attendees per session
  •   These sessions focus on prevention and do not cover management of diabetes
